The Story Behind the Stone

I'm John, a passionate gemstone cutter based in Brighton. My love for gemstones goes far beyond their beauty — it's about understanding the earth's history locked inside each one, and revealing it through careful, considered craftsmanship.

How I Source My Stones

Every gemstone I work with is ethically sourced from trusted suppliers and miners around the world. I look for rough stones with exceptional character — unusual colour, natural inclusions, or a shape that tells a story. No two stones are ever the same, which means every piece I create is genuinely one of a kind.

The Art of Hand-Cutting

I hand-cut and hand-finish every stone individually, working with its natural form rather than forcing it into a standard shape. This takes patience and skill — a single stone can take hours to cut — but the result is a gemstone that retains its natural personality while being transformed into something wearable and beautiful.

This approach is quite different from mass-produced, machine-cut stones. When you hold one of my gemstones, you're holding something that has been shaped by hand, with care and intention.

Made to Order & Commission Pieces

Alongside my ready-to-wear collection through Glitter and Gem, I welcome requests for bespoke work. Whether you're looking for a specific gemstone, a made-to-order cut, or a fully commissioned piece of jewellery, I'm happy to discuss what's possible. Just send me a message and we'll go from there.
